From there it was a three-hour train trip through rolling countryside to Trencianska Tepla (near Trencin), and a short taxi ride to the spa town of Trenčianske Teplice.

On our late afternoon walk through town, Frances saw a sign for Kofola on tap at a Viniteka (wine bar) so we stopped for refreshment. Kofola is a local cola drink, similar to Chinotto but not so sweet. I had a glass of Merlot Rose which was on tap! Not bad though. They also had some liquor in pretty interesting hand painted bottles.
We then looked for a place to eat, but we’d started a bit late, and half of the restaurants we’d passed earlier had since closed. Not too hungry we settled on a Okopia, a pizza restaurant.
We ordered a Rukola pizza to share, cheese, fresh tomato, prosciutto and rocket. When the waitress arrived, she placed half a pizza on the table – for a moment I though she’d understood that we wanted half a pizza instead of one pizza for two people. Then she put the other half on the table, on another plate! The first time we’ve got a share pizza on two plates – can’t criticize the service.
We also ordered dry white and red wines which came exactly as we ordered. The red was particularly good.
